ABOUT
Who We Are
Earley Engineering was founded in 1993 by Nick Simpson – an Alvis owner and enthusiast since 1960 – after some 20 years spent specialising in the repair and restoration of Alvis cars as an adjunct to his modern motor garage. A true family business, Earley Engineering is now owned and run by Nick’s son Alex and the office is managed by his daughter Marianne.
Earley Engineering has a traditionally trained, qualified and highly skilled workforce, some of whom have worked in the business for over 50 years, gaining extensive marque experience. Our services are backed up by an enormous Alvis technical archive collected over a period of 50 years by Nick who was the Technical Advisor to the Alvis Owner Club for many years. On the 1st April 2024, the Board of the Alvis Owner Club unanimously voted to appoint Nick as Patron and Lifetime Member of the club 'in recognition of his many years of enthusiastic service to the club, its members, their technical enquiries, and to promoting the Alvis marque in general'.
Our world-wide reputation for engineering excellence and quality is demonstrated by the large number of successful mechanical rebuilds carried out at our workshops. Several of our clients have participated in national and international rallies with great reliability and success in Alvis cars prepared by us. They know our service is backed up by competitive pricing, excellent value and the highest quality. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in the amazing variety of rare Alvis cars entrusted to our workshops for attention.
Between 30 and 50 rare Alvis cars can be found in our workshops at most times. We have experience working on many types of coach work including saloons, racers, specials, sports and coupes by Charlesworth, Cross & Ellis, Vanden Plas, Tickford, Willowbrook and Mulliner. Almost all of our work is completed in-house including maintenance, engine rebuilds, mechanical modifications, updating service, ash framing, painting, trim work, mechanical fitting, tuning and machining. The excellent availability of Alvis parts makes the marque an attractive proposition for those who like to drive their cars long distances. We have accumulated an enormous stock of rare spare parts for the benefit of our regular clients, and have manufactured a small range of new precision-made components.
Director Alex Simpson is available most times to discuss your project – either by phone or appointment. Please call us to arrange a visit to our workshops.

Testimonials
I find Earley easy to work with, they have a very friendly and personable approach we have developed a trusting relationship that works really well.
Recently a full inspection was carried out to establish the reason for water leak issues... at the same time I took the opportunity for a full service … Once road tests were completed, carburettors and ignition system were set up and fine-tuned. The Alvis was then cleaned and prepared for storage using the firm’s 7.5 ton covered transporter. I would not hesitate to recommend Earley Engineering to other Alvis owners.
